What Wears Out First on a Mighty+: A Spare Parts Order

In short: in our experience, on a Mighty+ the small screens need replacing first. The mouthpiece usually comes next, then the silicone seal rings, then the cooling unit itself, which Storz & Bickel says should be replaced regularly. The cap lock is the small part people forget until it snaps or goes missing. Dosing capsules and liquid pads are consumables, and the batteries aren't an owner-replaceable part at all. That's our suggested buying order, not an official S&B schedule, so let the condition of each part decide.

This guide puts Mighty replacement parts in the order we'd buy them, explains where each part sits and the signs it's due, and says which spares we stock and which come from Storz & Bickel. It also applies to the original Mighty, because S&B lists its cooling unit, seal ring set and wear and tear set as suitable for both the Mighty and the Mighty+.

Where the Wear Parts Are

Most of the parts that wear on a Mighty+ live in one removable assembly, the cooling unit. When people talk about the "Mighty vape head", this is usually what they mean. Storz & Bickel's instructions break it down like this, from top to bottom:

  • Mouthpiece, with a mouthpiece seal ring where it pushes into the cap
  • Cap lock, the sliding clip that holds the cap to the base
  • Cooling unit cap, which holds a small normal-mesh screen and a small base seal ring
  • Cooling unit base, which holds a small coarse-mesh screen and a large base seal ring

The filling chamber, which is part of the device, has its own seal rings. In the box you get three normal and three coarse small screens, three spare small base seal rings and one dosing capsule.

1. Screens: First to Wear

The screens see every draw, and they clog with fine particles and residue. S&B's instructions are blunt about it: if a screen is clogged, it must be replaced. Signs it's due:

  • The draw feels tighter than it did after the last clean
  • Small bits of herb reaching the mouthpiece
  • The mesh is bent or stays blocked after cleaning

Our screens arrive pre-shaped, so they push into the cooling unit without bending a flat disc to shape:

Mesh choice and replacement timing each have their own guides: coarse vs fine screens for the Mighty and when to replace Mighty screens.

2. The Mouthpiece

The flip-up mouthpiece is the part you touch every session. Over time it picks up residue inside, the tip gets scuffed, and the seal ring that holds it in the cap can loosen. S&B sells a four-pack of mouthpieces that fits both the Mighty+ and Crafty+, and a new cooling unit comes with a mouthpiece fitted.

If you want to move away from plastic, our glass mouthpieces fit the Mighty, Mighty+, Crafty and Crafty+ cooling units using silicone gaskets:

Fit note: the silicone gasket doesn't grip as firmly as the original plastic mouthpiece, so a glass mouthpiece can work loose in a pocket. That's the trade-off, and we explain it in the one problem with glass mouthpieces. If you carry your Mighty+ every day, keep a plastic mouthpiece for travel.

3. Seal Rings

The Mighty+ relies on silicone rings to keep the airpath sealed. S&B's instructions say to check parts after cleaning for cracks, softening, hardening, brittleness or discolouration, and to discard anything damaged. Practical signs a ring is due:

  • The cooling unit feels loose on the device, or rocks when you press the cap
  • The mouthpiece spins freely or slides out on its own
  • A ring looks shiny and flattened, or has a nick in it

Storz & Bickel's Seal Ring Set contains three mouthpiece rings, two filling chamber rings, three small base rings and three large base rings, listed for the Mighty and Mighty+. We don't make seal rings, so this is one to get from S&B.

4. The Cap Lock

The cap lock is the small sliding clip that holds the cooling unit cap to the base. It gets pulled every time you open the cooling unit, and it's easy to lose when you strip everything down to clean. S&B sells cap locks in threes for the Mighty+ and Crafty+. One cleaning tip from the instructions: wipe the cap lock with isopropyl alcohol rather than soaking it, because a long soak can lift the hologram sticker.

5. The Cooling Unit

The cooling unit isn't a lifetime part. S&B's instructions say that, to ensure cleanliness, it should be replaced regularly, and that parts with cracks, softening, hardening, brittleness or discolouration should be thrown away.

In practice, it's time for a new one when:

  • Clips or the cap lock no longer hold firmly
  • Residue deep in the labyrinth won't shift with a 30-minute soak (S&B's maximum for plastic parts)
  • The plastic has gone cloudy, brittle or cracked after a drop

S&B sells the cooling unit singly, in a three-pack, and in its Wear & Tear Set. That set includes one cooling unit, three mouthpieces, a screen set, two filling chamber tools and a cleaning brush, all listed for the Mighty and Mighty+. We don't stock cooling units. A spare lets you use one while the other is being cleaned, which also makes S&B's "clean within 7 days of last use" rule easier to stick to.

6. Capsules and Liquid Pads

These don't wear out so much as get used up or lost:

  • Dosing capsules: our 'Armour' screw-lid dosing capsules are aluminium with a threaded lid, 14 mm across and 9 mm tall, in packs of 2, 3, 5 or 10. Our 'Drop'n'Tip' glass dosing capsules have no lid at all: load, heat, tip out. Both are listed for the Mighty and Mighty+.
  • Liquid pads: if you use aroma oils, our liquid pad set fits the Crafty(+), Mighty(+), Venty and Veazy. Our listing is clear that the pads are for aromatherapy liquids, not loose material.

What You Can't Replace Yourself

  • Batteries: S&B states that the Mighty+ batteries aren't user-replaceable and should only be replaced by its Service Center. See Mighty+ battery life and replacement.
  • The heater and filling chamber: these are built into the device. On the Mighty+ the 1.4 cm³ chamber is ceramic-coated, and S&B says its tests show the coating makes the chamber more resistant to scratches and damage than the previous one. It's a reason to treat the chamber gently, not a part you replace. S&B's cleaning advice is a lightly moistened cotton bud with isopropyl alcohol, without oversaturating it, so no alcohol gets into the device.
  • Charger: not a wear part. The Mighty+ charges over USB-C, and with S&B's Supercharger (15 V, 3 A) S&B quotes about 80% in roughly 40 minutes. To use the Mighty+ while it charges, S&B says you need a Supercharger supplying at least 15 V at 3 A. The original Mighty uses a DC plug power adapter, which S&B still sells separately, so check which one you need before you order.

Water attachments, stands and other upgrades are a separate question from replacing worn parts. Everything we make that fits is in our Mighty and Crafty accessories and replacement parts collection.

Quick Answers

Do original Mighty replacement parts fit the Mighty+?

The cooling unit parts do. Storz & Bickel lists its cooling unit, Seal Ring Set and Wear & Tear Set for both models, and our screens, glass mouthpieces and dosing capsules are listed for both too. The charger is the exception: the Mighty+ uses USB-C and the original Mighty uses a DC plug.

Can I use Crafty+ parts on a Mighty+?

Some of them. S&B sells the same mouthpieces and cap locks for both, and our screens fit both. S&B sells a separate cooling unit for each model, though, so don't assume those swap.

Do I need official Storz & Bickel parts?

For seal rings, cap locks and the cooling unit, we point people to S&B, because we don't make them and S&B lists them for the Mighty and Mighty+. For screens, mouthpieces and capsules, third-party parts made for the Mighty+ are an option. Check the listed fit on each product page before you order.

What's the minimum spare kit?

A pack of screens, an S&B Seal Ring Set and a spare mouthpiece. Add a second cooling unit if you use the Mighty+ daily.
